We had the pleasure of seeing Peaches live in South Beach on Wednesday night (12/6) for the opening of Art Basel. It was a FREE event sponsored by Art Basel, on an outdoor stage right on the beach. A very ballsy choice by Art Basel if you ask me! I’d estimate that 50% of the crowd didn’t know what they were in for and were there just to check it out. The vibe was awesome though and the weather was beautiful!
We got there right on time but were OVERWHELMED with the number of people that were there. We had to pass over this little boardwalk bridge which was crammed with people, we thought for sure we wouldn’t be able to see anything at all… but as we crossed over after crushing against way too many strangers we were handed free (and tasty) energy drinks from a sponsor and we easily edged in to get a great view! The sound was perfect and Peaches was rocking her booty (and her clothes) off with every song. She had multiple layers of underpants and kept dropping them. It was very amusing.

We didn’t realize it at first, but she was leaving them all on around her legs. Check out the little photo… there were about 5 pairs at least!
The crowd was definitely loving it and bopping along. At one point Peaches fell on her face, which turned out to be a prat fall. The Roadies brought out a stretcher and carried it out while she kept on singing.
It really was a fun show and you can’t beat the price! No one I noticed seemed offended by her filthy lyrics, maybe because it seemed like a lot of European folks.

Tate and I after the show. Glowing with the fun of it all!
If you haven’t seen enough photos, I put up an album.

Tate and I went down to Lincoln Road on Saturday night – we went and picked up the little Munny Show teaser flyers for Art Basel and then wanted to check out the “We’ll Make a Lover Out of You” art show at Art|Center. The show looks great and it runs through January 21, 2007 so you have no excuse not to go and see it!!
We had a great evening walking around Lincoln Road. It was really busy, but everyone was very friendly except for our waiter. He was a bit of a dickhead, but the food was delicious.
We met a few artists, including Bianca (below) who was right outside the Art|Center selling some of her work. She was doing watercolor portraits at very reasonable prices and once I saw how talented she was I couldn’t resist. I have had bad experiences in the past with these types of things, but I figured I’d give it a go.
It is a SURREAL experience to stand there facing crowds of people walking by while they gawk and judge you against the artist rendering. I had to stay still and didn’t look at their faces, so I couldn’t gauge their reactions. The anticipation about what it will look like is part of the fun! I’m staying still in this photo that is why I look kind of “blank”.
We will be showing some of Bianca’s portraits at Bear and Bird in 2007, so this is not the last you will see of her!
One last thing: We saw a man with no arms doing these crazy psychedelic-type drawings. He was using his feet/toes and methodically colored in the swirls with small tip pens of different colors. Tate wanted to go talk to him, but I was scared!! While I was getting my portrait done by Briana Tate chatted with the jewelry vendor next to her. He told Tate that the armless man’s artwork was $150! In the grand scheme of things, that is not expensive AND he is a novelty in that he does them with his toes – but it shocked me at the time. Does he sell anything?? I can’t imagine.

This makes me laugh! This is at the Woodstock Arts & Crafts Festival in Sunrise this past weekend.
What makes is particularly funny to me is that the sign has been like this for years!! Last year I didn’t see it and I assumed they fixed it, but NO! It is still wrong in all its glory.
This is a reminder to everyone out there – check your spelling!!

Went down to the Redlands last weekend – if you’re ever in South Florida you should check it out! www.redlandriot.com “A leisurely tour through rural South Miami-Dade County is a wonderful opportunity to learn a bit about the pioneer era one hundred years ago and stock up on fresh produce, orchids, exotic fruits and home-made delicacies during the winter and spring seasons.”

We stopped by “Robert is Here” (which Tate hilariously/accidentally called “Peter Goes First”)
They had lots of amazing items for sale. Jams and Jellies of EVERY imaginable variety. Picked up some nice Xmas gifts for folks. As we were checking out an amazing shape and texture caught my eye! A DRAGON FRUIT?! Never heard of it before… They were all mostly the size of a baseball, but there was one HUGE one! It was totally freaky and looked like it was from another planet. When I saw it was the fruit of a cactus I just had to try it. (I love cacti and succulents)
“The” Robert of Robert is Here was impressed with the size of the fruit when we were rung out. He took a photo with his camera phone!
Well… it sat on our counter for over a week. Took a photo of it with one of the new Treeson figure we got in last week… seemed to match somehow. We kept intending to cut it up and try it, but we’ve just been busy. Last night we took the plunge! It was REALLY easy to cut up. The outside skin peeled off easily and it has tiny seeds inside that you can eat.

I liked it. It had a texture similars to cantaloupe and was BRIGHT pink. You definitely could use this fruit to dye clothing or hair. It was pinker than anything I’ve seen in nature before.
Cacti are amazing…
